1978 GMC Royale. New two color metallic paint. We have invested $54k+ (including original purchase price) since November 2004. Roof was also repainted. You may have seen this unit and been impressed at one of the Western States GMC rallies.
Note Alcoa aluminum wheels, silver swoop graphic, and gold trip graphic. This was a "high end" paint job done by Havasu Autobody which specializes in painting street rods and classic cars.
Driver's side of exterior. Front wheels parked on blocks instead of lowering the rear airbags to keep the sewer hose higher.
Interior kitchen view showing original butcher block countertop. Note pleated day/night shades and custom privacy curtain behind drivers seat.
Table has foldup leaves for easy seating when not eating. All carpeting is new.
Dashboard is new. It is reinforced fiberglass with a padded cover. We have a removable center console that is showing an external CB speaker.
Instrument panel is new from Customer Instrument Panels, Carson, California. It has a new radio, tachometer, vacuum guage, transmission temperature, voltage, fuel, oil pressure, engine temperature, and custom lighting.
I have a multi-cigarette adaptor below the air/fuel mixture guage.
Two sofas that convert to twin beds face each other at mid-coach. The burgandy upholstery is all new...as are the pleated day/night shades and head liner. That's a indoor/outdoor temp. guage on the wall.
Refrigerator is a three way with a new control board. Cupboard are all walnut.
Rear bath shows large closet on driver's side. When making beds, we stow back cushions on front driver/passenger seats. Speakers are new.
Rear bath has tub and new toilet.
View with closet door open. We have storage bins on one side.
Driver's side sofa/twin bed abutts refrigerator. Each sofa has a reading light (not in picture). All cupboards have new florescent lights below them.
New vinyl tile and carpet. Cupboard doors on left are below the kitchen sink.
Control board shows black and gray water levels, fresh water, propane level, battery condition, and Onan 6000 generator start button. Stove has four burners. Microwave below stove.
All custom cabinets were done by Coachmen Industries. The coach has a redone front end, including new ball joints and wheel bearings. The engine has been replaced with a 455 cid Olds Toranado engine, newly rebuilt with a low rpm/high torque cam. We also had a Howell fuel injection system installed. It was Dyno tuned in Santee California (it took all day). It gets 11 mpg when not towing. With a Samurai tow car, we get 8.5. With a Jeep Wrangler tow car, we get 7.5. Mileage figures are at 60-65 mph. Faster than that hurts the mileage. Two new blue top Optima house batteries. New Optima red top engine battery. Has new ac/dc auto convertor. Many other new unlisted improvements. Custom trailer hitch with steel wheels on each side to prevent dragging. You may e-mail us at JamesLFaulkner@hotmail.com
